Southpaw to Complete Audio Upgrades At WSISD’s Bear Stadium

Opened in 2008, Bear Stadium located in Ft. Worth, Texas is host to Brewer High School’s athletic programs. In 2013, Southpaw (then TS Sports) installed the original video board in the endzone. The board’s dimensions were 15’H and 25’W and included fixed ad panels as well. Since that time, Brewer High School has refreshed and enlarged the screen and is now ready to improve its entire audio system. In July 2020, Brewer High School
once again partnered with Southpaw to complete a stadium-wide audio upgrade. The work will finish by the first home game of the 2020 Football season.

David Bitters, Assistant Superintendent of Finance & Operations for WSISD stated “Bear’s Stadium current address system provides inadequate audio levels for the students, fans, players, and production/playback systems. The upgrade will complete the one-of-a-kind experience that you can only encounter in Texas during ‘Friday Night Lights’.” The new system will produce 100dB of full-spectrum audio to the home side bleachers using six (6) high power, 3- way outdoor rated speakers to serve the home side bleachers. This will allow sound to arrive approximately 1⁄2 second after spoken into the microphone. Additional speakers will be installed in and around bleachers just below the press box, outdoor suite areas, and indoor suite areas. To serve the visitor bleachers, a high-power “long-throw” speaker will be installed on top of the press box. Concession area speakers will also be installed in the upgrade.

Bitters added, “We chose to go with Southpaw for the audio upgrades because of our long history with their team of engineers, solutions managers, and ownership group. We always know that we are getting more than just a product from these guys. We are getting a relationship.”

Blayne Champlin will be Southpaw’s Project Manager for the installation. He stated, “The audio upgrade will work seamlessly with the existing control system for the stadium. We will be putting a system in place that the students can easily integrate into their current replay systems they operate for the home games. Ease of operation is one of the main selling points for any system Southpaw offers.” Bitters finished by saying, “Our students, our fans, and our community all deserve a stadium that is second-to-none, and we know that partnering with Southpaw will get us one step closer to meeting & exceeding this expectation.”

At Southpaw, results matter – but so do relationships. This is another example of the value our clients see in us when considering a long-term partner they can count on. We’re excited to continue our relationship with WSISD in the coming years and look forward to additional scopes of work within the district.
